Mirror Monologues pt 2: Brush up, Push up, Strap up.

They don’t know this bird that tweets.
They say the caged bird sings
They don’t know.
I know myself, I know what they see isn’t really me and yet each morning the dance starts;
In front of the mirror, behind closed doors
Searching for something that will show a perception of me as I want to be perceived.
It’s hard to just be really.
Really, no – one just steps outside the house as they are: breath kicking, hair dancing, skin cracking, lips whitening and with grinning teeth stretching hand forward – I’m pleased to meet you.
So… that in mind I brush up, push up, strap up and all tied up smile and say
– Hi my name is Nissi, pleased to meet you.

About Plantain Periodicals

Hello! Welcome to the Plantain Periodicals blogs. The name stems from the kitchen moments I had with my friends at university cooking plantain and planning our lives together. I have used this space as a window into my mind and the way I make sense of all my experiences through writing.This is where I share those conversations and moments that happen inside my head as a young woman growing up in 21st century London. Hopefully you'll be entertained and also learn a thing or two. My main blog ad: www.nissiknows.wordpress.com My literature blog: www.plantainperiodicals.wordpress.com NMx
