So I’ve been deceived all this time – slim people do have figure.

This evening I went for a spin session at the gym and thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved this class especially because the instructor actually had a body shape I would not mind having (it’s always more of an incentive to do the class when the instructor isn’t overweight). Anyway this spin lady was really thin and still had a bum and hips! I mean don’t get me wrong I have seen thin people with figure, but it had never really sunk in before, it’s like my ‘body eyes’ were de mystified. I have grown up believing that thin people do not have curves, (needless to say it has been men who have been giving me this less than truthful advice for reasons I will not name in this blog).

Nevertheless I thought I would get the word out there, especially to black women. Men will say that they want a woman they can hold, and that once you drop below a certain size, you will no longer be curvy. It is comments like this that keep us women overweight and unhealthy – don’t believe the lie. I saw it with my own eyes today, it is not only celebs who can have a figure and a slim body.

Join me working out!

About Plantain Periodicals

Hello! Welcome to the Plantain Periodicals blogs. The name stems from the kitchen moments I had with my friends at university cooking plantain and planning our lives together. I have used this space as a window into my mind and the way I make sense of all my experiences through writing. This is where I share those conversations and moments that happen inside my head as a young woman growing up in 21st century London. Hopefully you'll be entertained and also learn a thing or two. My main blog ad: My literature blog: NMx
