My scripture favs pt5 – it is possible to be nice and get ahead

Romans 12:21 “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good”.

So simple and to the point! When I feel like cussing, spitting and pulling your hair out for doing me wrong (and I feel like that often), I remember this and check myself. Being nasty to someone who has been nasty to you is so easy, it is the reflex/ knee jerk reaction, but life is not a series of reflexes. Only by learning self control and mastering our emotions can we be truly successful in life. If there is one thing that has proven to be true in my life time and time again, it is that nice people do get ahead. It is possible to be nice and determined, and driven and ambitious, it is just they way that you exhibit the traits will be different. Instead of focusing on me, my, mine, I, the focus is switched to we, us and together. By focusing on overcoming evil with good, you have to work with people. The best way I have found to overcome evil with good is to learn to love others and constantly look for the good in people even when the situation is really bad.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

About Plantain Periodicals

Hello! Welcome to the Plantain Periodicals blogs. The name stems from the kitchen moments I had with my friends at university cooking plantain and planning our lives together. I have used this space as a window into my mind and the way I make sense of all my experiences through writing. This is where I share those conversations and moments that happen inside my head as a young woman growing up in 21st century London. Hopefully you'll be entertained and also learn a thing or two. My main blog ad: My literature blog: NMx
